Continuing the trend of reboots, RoboCop looks to be yet another simplified, special-effects-laden rehash of a classic film that does not need a remake, reboot or re-anything, as the original still holds up so well today.

The original RoboCop was such a great film because of its dark, witty humor and its (at the time) clever commentary on the dangers of corporate control over the law. The new RoboCop doesn’t look bad by any means, but just going off of the trailers, it looks like a typical blockbuster.

The new RoboCop could be a fun little movie, and maybe there is some clever scriptwriting in the actual movie. It’s a shame the movie looks so bad, when the original is so good. Then again, 2013’s Dredd showed that reboots can work when done right.
